Operation Christmas Child

Build A Shoebox Online

Country Oaks is so happy to be a part of Operation Christmas Child and the shoebox collection (this will be our 13th year! How exciting!). Every year during the National Collection Week, COBC serves as a drop-off center for the Tehachapi area, and at the end of the week a group takes all the boxes to the Samaritan’s Purse processing center in Fullerton, California.

Packing a shoebox is a great way to send encouragement to children around the world. Each box contains a few small gifts along with the message of the hope of Jesus Christ and lets these children know that they have not been forgotten and that they are loved.

Want to get involved? Click here for more information on volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse.

Want to pack a box (or 2 or 3?)? Find a step-by-step guide below, or you can click here to build a shoebox online for only $25.

Pack A Box:

  1. Find a shoebox: Start with an average-sized plastic or cardboard shoebox. You can also pick up a preprinted OCC shoebox in the Country Oaks Worship Center, they’ll be available a few weeks before the Collection Week in November.
  2. Choose who to pack for: Decide whether to pack for a boy or girl and what age group you’re packing for; 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
  3. Fill the box with gifts: Put in a medium-to-large “Wow” item, such as a stuffed animal or soccer ball with pump, then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies.
  4. Pray: Pray for the child who will receive your box. You can also include a note or photo if you like.
  5. Follow your Box: Donate $9 online to help with processing, shipping, and gospel materials, and you will also receive a label to “Follow your Box” and discover the destination of your gift.
  6. Drop it Off: Take your box to a drop-off location (like COBC) during National Collection Week. This year that will be November 16-23, 2020.

Thanks for being a part of this wonderful outreach!

Gift Ideas:

TOYS – Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small etch-a-sketches, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky, etc.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES – Pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

HYGIENE ITEMS – Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap, comb, wash cloth, etc.

OTHER – T-shirts, socks, ball caps, watches, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, flashlights, etc.

WHAT NOT TO PUT IN A SHOEBOX: War-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures, chocolate or food, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers, aerosol cans, etc.

Ways to pray for OCC:

  • Pray for the many evangelistic opportunities that can occur
  • Pray about your involvement in our local OCC Relay Center this year
  • Pray about whether you should be a part of the trip to the OCC Processing Center
Children helping to pray over the boxes before they are taken to the processing center

In 2019:

COBC collected 523 Gospel opportunities!
Tehachapi (14 churches in the area) collected 1,725
Kern County collected 14,682
USA collected 8,950,144
Global: 10,500,000

What a fabulous outpouring of God’s love through OCC!

Helping Groups

Life can be difficult, and sometimes we need a little extra help. These groups are there to help and support you during some of life’s most difficult times.

COBC Divorce Care

DivorceCare is a Biblical support group centered around videos featuring top experts on divorce and recovery. This is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone. DivorceCare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

What to Expect: Each session begins with a discussion about the daily devotionals on the previous week’s topic. After watching the video, the topics in the video are discussed. The sessions are facilitated by 3-4 leaders who have healed from their divorces and are called to support and encourage others going through divorce or separation. The goal is to draw hurting people into a closer relationship with their Great Physician who ultimately brings the healing.

The Next Session will begin Sunday, September 13. Click here to view current group information on the DivorceCare website.

DivorceCare will meet on Sundays at Country Oaks Baptist Church at 5:30pm in Room 201. See the schedule below for topics covered. DivorceCare meets for 13 weeks and will take a break for Thanksgiving week.

Here’s the typical COBC DivorceCare Schedule:

  • 2          Healing / Help
  • 3          Anger
  • 4          Depression

You will find other helpful information and resources at Divorce Care.

DivorceCare meets in Room 201 at Country Oaks Baptist Church (20915 Schout Road), Sunday evenings at 5:30pm. If you have any questions, please call the church office at 661.822.1379.

GriefShare

The next session of GriefShare will begin on Tuesday, August 11 at 6:00pm in the Chapel at Country Oaks Baptist Church. See our schedule here. Join any time!

GriefShare normally meets Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm in the Chapel. Find Help, Hope and Healing! We look forward to your attendance as you heal from your grief. We love you!

No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. It can make feeling optimistic about the future seem impossible. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you’ve probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel.

That’s one reason for Grief Share, a special support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. It’s a place where many people have found that they can begin putting their lives back together again.

Grief Share features nationally recognized experts on grief and recovery topics. Sessions include:

  1. Living with Grief
  2. The Journey of Grief
  3. The Effects of Grief
  4. When Your Spouse Dies
  5. Your Family and Grief
  6. Why?
  7. The Uniqueness of Grief, Part 1
  8. The Uniqueness of Grief, Part 2
  9. God’s Prescription for Grief
  10. Stuck in Grief
  11. Top Twenty Lessons of Grief, Part 1
  12. Top Twenty Lessons of Grief, Part 2
  13. Heaven

Each session is “self-contained” so that you don’t feel obligated to attend in sequence. You will find encouragement and help whenever you attend.

Griefshare meets in the Chapel at Country Oaks Baptist Church, Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm. For more information, call the church office at 661.822.1379. Join any time!

You will find other helpful information and resources at www.griefshare.org.
