Vacation Bible School 2020

Virtual VBS: Mystery Island

July 20-24 // For kids age 4 – 12

$5/child (includes T-shirt and craft materials)

Things will look different for VBS this year! Country Oaks Baptist Church will be doing a Virtual VBS – we will video all segments of VBS and have them available through our website. Families will be able to do a “drive-through pick up” to get their t-shirts and crafts for the week, then join us online for lessons, crafts, music, drama, and all the usual fun stuff. This year’s adventure is Mystery Island by Answers in Genesis.

From the moment your adventurer lands at VBS Mystery Island, he or she will be digging up clues to discover truth about our Creator God – learning who He is and what He’s like.
We may have heard people talk about Him, we may even have an idea about who He is. He reveals Himself to us in His word in the Old Testament and we read about Him as He revealed himself to us in the person of Jesus in the New Testament. Join us for the week as we search the scriptures and learn about who God says He is.

Join us for fun and teaching that connects the Bible to the world around us and gives kids a better understanding of our Creator and the salvation He offers through Jesus Christ.

Cost is only $5 per child and includes a t-shirt.

Registration is open now!

Register for VBS 2020

Check back for updates as we get closer to the date!

Children’s Sunday School

During the 9:00 service we feature “Generations of Grace,” a curriculum which takes students on a 3-year journey through the Bible. Each Pre-K through 6th grade student in your family will be covering the same passage of Scripture each Sunday so that parents can lead a family discussion. (Click here to view the curriculum at Generations of Grace.)

During the 10:30 service, we invite the children to worship alongside their parents. Before the sermon begins, we dismiss children up to 4th grade to Children’s classes that feature lessons designed to teach biblical principles from God’s Word. Students may bring home a craft which includes information about the lesson so that, again, parents can lead a discussion in the home.

We also welcome families who prefer to keep their children with them during the entire worship service. Whichever option you choose, our goal is to help parents fulfill their role as the primary disciplers of their own children

Taught by church family who love to share Jesus and the love of Christ with children, Country Oaks provides a safe environment for our children to learn and grow. Volunteers and staff are all background checked through “Clearstar” and their references are confirmed by our Children’s Ministry Director, Mike Owens. Additionally, no one is invited to volunteer in this ministry unless they have been around COBC and are known here.

Our computerized check-in program, located in the Chapel, guarantees that children end up in the right Sunday School class and go home with the right parents.

Although we believe that the best way to teach God’s Word to children is through training and instruction by their parents in the home (see Deut. 6:4-9 and Eph. 6:4), the church definitely has a role to play in coming alongside Christian parents and reaching out to children that do not have the benefit of receiving biblical teaching in the home.

Heritage Oak School

The primary mission of this school is to educate, promote, establish, and equip students in the classical approach to education in light of a Christian world view grounded in the Old and New Testaments. The mission of the school is to educate through the classical approach to ensure that our Western heritage is not lost. This will be accomplished through association with other classical schools in the Association of Classical Christian Schools. Through various means, we will seek an educational standard for a unified and directed approach to classical and Christian learning.

Our mission is also to teach through a methodology known as the Trivium (grammar, logic and rhetoric), which is the educational and classical foundation of our western culture. We believe that God will bless this approach as He has in the past, as long as it follows the principles of His Word.

We believe that Christianity must be studied in light of its impact on Western culture, and that it must be a part of every subject. In recognizing that our cultural heritage is from God, we do not idolize it but we ground all that we seek to do upon the revelation of God, both in creation and Scripture, with the former being interpreted by the latter. As a classical and Christian school, we are seeking to integrate all our teaching around the revealed Word of God.

Advent Family Devotional 2013

2013 CoverDear Family,

Advent is a season of preparation, a time of prayerful anticipation. The very atmosphere of Advent stirs our hearts, as we make ready to celebrate the birth of Christ. Please utilize this resource to help your family make Jesus the focal point of Christmas. In keeping with our children’s ministry philosophy (that parents are the primary teachers of their children and that the family and the home is the most important context for learning), we offer this Advent Devotional Guide 2013 as one of many tools for you to heed the instructions of Deuteronomy 6.

This year we are also utilizing the Advent Conspiracy program to help us align our hearts with Christ’s. The four aspects of Advent Conspiracy are:

  1. To Worship Fully, by
  2. Spending Less, so that we can
  3. Give More, thereby
  4. Loving All.

Each aspect will be highlighted during the four weeks leading up to Christmas. We are encouraging families to intentionally spend less on the commercial aspects of Christmas and use that money instead to reach other people around the world with the love of Christ by investing in livestock for impoverished villages.

Set aside a little time each night to fill in the next blank in the Advent Alphabet located at the end of this booklet.

On each of the four Sundays during Advent and Christmas Eve, you will light the corresponding candles on the Advent wreath and read the devotion as a family. The devotions correspond with the four aspects of the Advent Conspiracy.

So, prayerfully consider how you will lead your family spiritually this Christmas season. Take advantage of the opportunities we have provided for you to be the pastor of your home. Then, gather the family around God’s Word as you celebrate and serve the newborn King.

May the Lord richly bless your family in the coming year.

Pastor Brent

Just check your bulletin or the church website to find out which Bible story was covered during the 9:00am Sunday School.)

So, prayerfully consider how you will lead your family spiritually this Christmas season. Take advantage of the opportunities we have provided for you to be the pastor of your home. Then, gather the family around God’s Word as you celebrate and serve the newborn King.
