Journey 24/7 (High School)

Though club night is very exciting for the kids, and often the highlight of their week, we recognize that most of the spiritual instruction is going to happen as parents help their kids memorize the verses at home and explain the meaning of each verse. Our “AWANA at Home” program helps parents learn how to bring the three key elements of AWANA into your home: Scripture memory, Bible teaching, and game time.

Tuition Reduction Continues

In the 2010/2011 School year tuition is only $400 per month per FAMILY. Heritage Oak School is a ministry of Country Oaks Baptist Church.  Please check out www.heritageoakschool.info for more information.

The primary mission of this school is to educate, promote, establish, and equip students in the classical approach to education in light of a Christian world view grounded in the Old and New Testaments. The mission of the school is to educate through the classical approach to ensure that our Western heritage is not lost. This will be accomplished through association with other classical schools in the Association of Classical Christian Schools. Through various means we will seek an educational standard for a unified and directed approach to classical and Christian learning.

Our mission is also to teach through a methodology known as the Trivium (grammar, logic and rhetoric), which is the educational and classical foundation of our western culture. We believe that God will bless this approach as He has in the past, as long as it follows the principles of His Word.

We believe that Christianity must be studied in light of its impact on Western culture, and that it must be a part of every subject. In recognizing that our cultural heritage is from God, we do not idolize it, but we ground all that we seek to do upon the revelation of God, both in creation and Scripture, with the former being interpreted by the latter. As a classical and Christian school, we are seeking to integrate all our teaching around the revealed Word of God.

Sunday School & Seeds of Faith

When your family first arrives at Country Oaks, you will want to head to the chapel where our registration/check-in table is located. We want to provide a safe and welcoming environment for you and your children, so we have set up a computerized check-in program called Lamb’sList. Allow our friendly Lamb’sList servants to greet you, help you check-in, and find your way to the appropriate classrooms. Each child will receive an adhesive information tag, which includes the child’s name, the parent’s names, classroom, and a 3-digit security code. The parent will receive a small “claim ticket” with the matching 3-digit code for each of their children. Parents who utilize our nursery will receive a pager so you can be called if your baby is in need of your attention.

9:00 a.m. Worship Service

Our 9:00 AM Sunday School program is for the whole family, but we are particularly excited about our unified Bible curriculum. “Generations of Grace” takes K-12 students through a three-year tour of the Bible. Each child in your family will receive teaching on the same portion of Scripture so that you can continue the discussion in the car on the way home and throughout the week in the home. The bulletin and church website provide the Scripture reference, themes, and sample questions as conversation starters. This is a wonderful tool for parents to be “pastors of their homes”.

10:30 a.m. Worship Service

At our 10:30 AM service, we invite the whole family to worship together. We believe it is important for children to see the entire Body of Christ praising God. However, we recognize that most young children are not developmentally ready to participate in a 45 minute exposition of Scripture. So, during the sermon, we dismiss the children to “Seeds of Faith.” This program provides systematic theology at age appropriate levels for children up to sixth grade. The curriculum we use is extremely God-centered instead of child-centered. We understand that our children are already too focused on themselves. We want to give them a great, big view of God so that they will be filled with awe and a desire to fear and love God and obey His commands.

Our Pre-School and Elementary children’s Groups are a perfect complement to the Adult Programs.  Taught by people who love to share Jesus with children, Country Oaks provides a safe environment for your children to learn and grow. The purpose of COBC is to lead people of all ages into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord.

Our Purpose

“We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed” 1 Corinthians 15:51

The purpose of our nursery is to provide a safe, loving, and God-centered environment for your child so that you can worship, grow, and serve with peace of mind.

We accept children from birth to 2 years of age.  At 18 months parents have the option of graduating their child to the toddlers and 2’s class.

Our nursery features 3 rooms: an infant/crawler room, a walker/toddler room and a sleeping room.  All of our caregivers are faithful Christians who have been appropriately screened and trained. They will rock, walk, feed, play with and pray for your child. Diapers will also be checked and changed as needed.  Snack will be provided upon request. Nursing mothers are welcome any time.

Nursery Instructions

From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15

4. Label diaper bag, bottle and sipper cups

5. Remember to sign out your child when you pick him or her up.

6. Remember to return the pager.

You will receive a pager when leaving your child in our care.  Please keep the pager with you at all times in the event that we need to contact you.  Please do not leave the church facilities at any time while your child is in our care.

Vision for Children’s Ministry

Worship, Grow, Serve, Invite

Country Oaks Baptist Church is a gathering of those who believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. We exist to carry out the instructions of our Master in four key ways:

  1. Worship-We endeavor to glorify God and magnify the name of Christ in our homes, community, and around the world (Isaiah 43:7; 1 Cor. 6:20).
  2. Grow-Through the help of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, we strive to know God better and be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29; 15:5-6).
  3. Serve-Like our Savior, we aim to demonstrate God’s great love to the world through self-sacrificial acts of love (John 15:8-17).
  4. Invite-We believe that the church’s mission of world proclamation of the gospel is still unfinished, so we implore all people everywhere to repent and follow Jesus as Lord and Savior (Matthew 24:14; 28:18-20).

Vision for Children’s Ministry

The vision for our Children’s Ministry is a reflection of these four guiding principles. The Bible teaches that every person is born in a state of rebellion against God (Romans 3:10,23) and needs to be forgiven and transformed by the sacrificial death and resurrection of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

So, our primary goal is to lead each child into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through Biblical instruction and prayer. We believe that the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper are not the modes by which sinners are saved, instead they are intended to be reminders of the free gift of salvation which Christ purchased on the cross (Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Cor. 11:23-26). Therefore, we teach our children the Gospel, praying that the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sins and lead them to the cross of Jesus Christ for salvation. After children make a profession of faith and demonstrate fruits of their true repentance, we encourage them to obey Christ’s commands to be baptized and celebrate the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection.

Our secondary goal is to make our children into lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ and equip them with a biblical worldview. We believe that the Bible is God’s inerrant Word, and thus it has total authority over what we believe and how we act. The Bible teaches that it is directly and sovereignly inspired by God and is therefore to be submitted to as His living Word addressed to us (Isaiah 55:11; Romans15:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Timothy 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19–21).

Philosophy of Ministry

Our philosophy of Children’s Ministry is drawn from the wisdom of the Bible. Children’s spiritual instruction is the primary responsibility of the parents (Deuteronomy 6:7; Ephesians 6:4). Biblically, their responsibility extends further than just seeing that children receive instruction. The primary emphasis of our children’s ministry is to support parents as “pastors of the home”. In supporting the ministry of the parents, we endeavor to be a readily available resource to the home.  The church provides age appropriate biblical instruction through Sunday morning classes, Wednesday night AWANA club, and a variety of other learning opportunities. However, these programs are designed to simply introduce children to church life and promote theological discussion in the home. God cares about people—not programs. The bulk of spiritual instruction is “caught more than taught” at home as children observe the spiritual habits of their parents. Please keep this in mind as you read about the various elements of our children’s ministry. It’s all designed to help you, the parent, shepherd your own children as the whole family grows together in Christ .

Opportunities for Ministry

The Lord Jesus came not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many. He expects His followers to do the same. Our children’s ministries are only as successful as the people who serve in those ministries. We understand that the church was never intended to be a place for parents to outsource the spiritual instruction of their children to someone else. Jesus provided the church as a place where His followers could gather to receive biblical instruction and to be equipped to do the work of making disciples of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16). Country Oaks has over 100 people joyfully serving in children’s ministries each year. We believe this is one of the key factors for the success of this church. As we faithfully serve the Lord, especially by discipling children, we become more like our Savior. When the whole church uses its diversity of gifts for a common purpose – to glorify God – the individuals become a unified body, rooted and grounded in the truth, led by the Holy Spirit and held together by the band of Christ’s love.

We hope that you will decide to make Country Oaks your home. This is a place where you can grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ through His Word and be equipped to lead your family into a closer walk with the Savior along with other loving families, partnering with one another for the same purpose: to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

In Christ,

Brent Whitney

The Egypt File:  Decoding the Mystery of Life!

Our children are constantly bombarded with the message that they are nothing more than just another animal—a product of countless years of random processes. From movies to books, they are brainwashed with the idea that they are nothing special and there is no God to whom they are accountable for their actions.

That’s where The Egypt File comes in! With this new VBS program, children will learn that God made them in His very image—they are special and set apart from the animals! Our purpose in life is to love and serve Him.

On Day 1 (File 001), they’ll uncover the truth that the “ape-men” they’ve heard so much about are actually nothing of the sort—they’re either ape or men, but not a combination of both. They’ll discover that the first two humans were lovingly made by the Creator God in the very beginning to fellowship with Him.

File 002—Kids will decode the design of their bodies—design that shouts, “I’m made by God!” From the top of their head to the bottom of their feet, they are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator. God thought of everything when He created us!

File 003—Kids will unlock the reason we’re separated from our God and why our bodies aren’t “very good” as they were in the beginning. They’ll be faced with the truth that we are sinners in need of a Savior and presented with the good news of salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

File 004—Life is precious. Handle with care! Kids will search the Bible to find that we should treat all people—from the tiniest baby in his mommy’s tummy to the oldest living person—with care and respect. As God loves us, so we should love one another.

File 005—To wrap up the week, your sleuths will unravel the mystery of working together as the body of Christ and will be challenged to use their lives to glorify the One who made them. They’ll learn that we’ve all been given gifts and talents which we can use together to further the kingdom of God and share with others about Christ has done for us.

There’s no mystery about where we came from or where we’re going when we discover what the Bible teaches! Get ready to decode the mystery of life at The Egypt File!

Take the HOS Survey

Please help out Heritage Oak School by taking a very short survey.  Click on the link below to learn more about the survey and to enter your answers.  We value your opinion.  Take the HOS Survey

I have been asked by several people from our congregation to explain our school.  After the statistic that Pastor Doug gave from Barna research – that 75% of students who go away to college lose their faith permanently within two years – this is a good time to do that. I went through our graduates and found  roughly 85-90% are still practicing their faith through everything from church attendance to missions work. It is possible to go against the culture when Deuteronomy 6 is applied “religiously.”

VISION     This is the fifteenth anniversary of applying our vision statement. Our goal is to graduate men and women who think clearly and listen carefully, who can reason persuasively, and who are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience through the world view of a Christian (not our American culture) and does so eagerly and joyfully in submission to God.

ACADEMICS     Of course, along with this is the emphasis on academics and a love for learning, and we also give a dose of instruction in the social graces. We want them to distinguish between real religion and religion in form only and to possess the former in humility and gratitude to Lord Jesus. This is our minimum understanding of a person who is salt and light in a world desperately in need of saving.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT     We also look to the staff and parents meeting this standard. We help the parents with this goal by offering a formal parenting class, and we never see ourselves as taking the parent’s place; we assist, and come alongside, but we do not replace them in any way.

COMMUNITY     We also try to cultivate a relationship with the community of Tehachapi, especially the religious aspects of our town. We are members of the Chamber of Commerce, and are in contact with the business community through our administrator.

PHILOSOPHY     Our philosophy of education is built on the foundation of the authority, authenticity, and reliability of the Bible. Matters of faith, truth, and practice are all referenced to that book. Our goals and objectives are found there. Our personal commitment to Jesus Christ is part of our educational process and curricula. The innocence of the student body is upheld.

CLASSICAL     And finally, we teach classically. That is, we follow the classical trivium of grammar, logic, and rhetoric when approaching the stages of learning for each child. We teach formal and applied logic, apologetics, Latin and/or Greek, and rhetoric as well as the normal courses required by California. Whether they plan to attend college or not, all of our students are equipped for the future and ready to retain their faith in the face of a antagonistic culture.

See me, Rich Engel – School Administrator, if you have any further questions and be sure to check out our website at www.heritageoakschool.com.
