The next Senior Saints fellowship will be on Friday, September 10 at 6:00 pm in The Grove. (Women’s Ministry will be setting up for their Kickoff in the Chapel.)  It’s Spuds Night so bring your favorite topping and dessert.  We’ll do some planning of our Senior Saints schedule for next year and play some table games.

Upcoming Events:

September 10 – Spuds Potluck, Planning Meeting

October 8 – Pot Pie Potluck, Game Night, pre-Thanksgiving basket planning

November 12 – Casserole Potluck, Movie Night, Give-out Thanksgiving basket

December - Grace Community Trip and Gift Exchange.  Date TBD

The purpose of the Senior Saints Ministry is to provide an opportunity for all senior saints to come together to develop relationships through a God-glorifying guided fellowship.  We provide the opportunity through monthly gatherings where planned group activities are scheduled.  These activities consist of game nights, movie nights, visits to points of interest, scripture moments, and outreach activities.  When we meet locally, we always include potluck meals to share our favorite dishes.

The Senior Saints Ministry is a committee-run ministry that consists of very special individuals that have voluteered extra time to develop and organize annual fellowship activities.  The committee coordinates all functions of the minsitry and schedules and prepares monthly activity events for our gatherings.

Committee Members

  • Activity Coordinators – Ruthie Bailey, Warner Brooks
  • Activity Preparation – Clem & Lynn Lee, Loyanne Brooks
  • Outreach Initiator – Kathy Steffen
  • Administrator – Ruth Taraldsen
  • Publication Designer – Richard & Eriko Page

I hope to see you at our monthly Senior Saints meetings.  Join us as we continue to be doers of God’s will through friendships and relationships.  If you have any questions, please give me a call.

Women’s Ministry Kickoff/One Day Retreat

September 11, 2010. That’s the date of the Wonder Full World One Day Retreat and Kickoff – Where Women Explore God’s Love and Wonder on seven continents and experience new friendships, in-depth Bible study, and unforgettable worship.  (See below for more information.)

Women’s Bible Studies Begin – Wednesday, September 15 at 6:00 pm and Friday, September 17 at 9:30 am.  Beth Moore’s “Esther – It’s Tough Being a Woman.” Books are $18. Sign up in the church office. Women’s Prayer Group begins on Thursday, September 16 @ 8:00 am in the Conference Room.

Wonder Full World Kickoff – Go on an around-the-world adventure on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm without ever leaving the church!  We’ll have great music & food, Bible study, games, crafts, and even shopping (with a purpose! We hope to bring back the Beauty for Ashes jewelry so we can support that ministry) . And we’ll be bringing back the favorite part of last year’s kickoff: a whole hour of quiet prayer time with just you and God.   Lunch will be served. Cost:  $30 (Scholarships available) -  No childcare is available.

During Wonder Full World, women will “travel” to each of the seven continents where they’ll explore the wonders of a woman’s heart such as “I wonder if I matter to God,” or “I wonder where God is when life is hard.” Most sessions include worship and Bible study, and all sessions also allow time for laughter with new friends or personal time with God.

Through the sessions of study and reflection, women will discover the depth of God’s love, strength, and compassion. The theme verse for the retreat is John 3:16-but this is just the starting point for all the Scriptures that guide women to understanding more of God’s heart for them.

Session 1: Australia
Women explore Mark 5 and meet the woman who had suffered with bleeding and reached out to Jesus for healing as they consider their own need for connections and care.

Session 2: Europe
We’ll talk about royalty and being a child of the King with a focus on our King of Kings:  Jesus Christ.

Session 3: Asia
Women discover just how immense God’s love for them is through a time of Bible study and discussion.

Session 4: Antarctica
As they move through prayer stations, women take time alone with God to reflect and pray, focusing on God’s presence with us in difficult times.

Session 5: South America
Women return to the Scriptures and again consider the miracle Jesus performed in the life of the woman with the bleeding, and realize what it means to fully rely on God.

Session 6: Africa
Here’s the opportunity to put love in action right away! Through a simple service project women complete together, they see how easy it is for even one woman to make a difference.

We need travel posters, your travel pictures (in digital form), cooks to prepare some dishes from around the world, and table decorators.  If you would like to help, please email angi@countryoaks.org.

Please check out the Country Oaks Women’s Ministry Website at www.cobcwm.wordpress.com for more information on COBC’s Women’s Ministry events and studies and the latest pictures from some of our events.

Also, if you missed some of the DVDs from the Beth Moore Daniel Study, you can check them out from the church office.  We currently have 2 DVDs checked out but the rest are available.

OUR PURPOSE – The purpose of the Women’s Ministry is to equip and encourage the women of Country Oaks Baptist Church to:

  • Follow Jesus fully by living out the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.
  • Glorify God and enjoy Him forever. – (“The purpose of our life is to reveal to others how wonderful He is and to glorify and enjoy Him eternally.” – Elyse Fitzpatrick )

OUR GOAL – The goal of the Women’s Ministry Team is to encourage the women of Country Oaks Baptist Church to:

  • Worship – Together we will seek to worship God through song, study, prayer and fellowship.
  • Grow – We will provide opportunities to study God’s Word and fellowship together on a regular basis (i.e. weekly Bible studies), to coordinate special events and outside activities for further spiritual growth (i.e. yearly retreats, mentoring program.)
  • Serve – We will provide opportunities for women to develop their spiritual gifts by serving in women’s ministry and encourage women to exercise their spiritual gifts on behalf of their church and community.
  • Invite – We will encourage women to reach out to the ladies of our church and our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our theme for 2010 is:  “Praying with Purpose”

Come and serve your Lord!

Adult Bible Fellowships

Why should I get involved ?

Country Oaks has become a large church and it is too easy to get “lost in the crowd.” Getting involved in an Adult Bible Fellowship will give you the opportunity to know others and will give others a chance to get to know you! And, you’ll be studying God’s Word as you develop relationships with others.

How do I choose the Sunday Morning Group that’s right for me?

It’s easy! Find the group where you feel you’ll best fit in for now. Currently our classes are based on age, but we are growing. We’ll be adding new groups that will be formed to meet the needs of Country Oaks’ people.

When and Where Do the Sunday Morning Fellowship Groups meet ?

Currently we meet Sunday mornings during each worship service.  We gather out back, behind the main building in the 300 Buildings and in the chapel. There, we’ll enjoy an hour of God’s Word, fellowship, food and coffee together.

9:00 am – 10:15 am

Prayer Chain

praying.jpgRejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” (Romans 12:12).

“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;” (Colossians 4:2).

On a cool Friday morning  a young man takes his friend to a Bakersfield hospital for surgery.  During her appointment, he decides to relax in his car just outside the hospital and call a classified ad.  To his surprise, he hears on the other end “Hello!  Do you have a prayer request?”

He “accidently” called the Country Oaks Baptist Church Prayer Chain.  You, too, can call the Prayer Chain at 823-9907.  This phone number is a “Hot Line” dedicated solely to the Prayer Chain Ministry.  Once a prayer request enters the Prayer Chain, about thirty men and women are notified by either phone and/or email.  Each then immediately sends prayers to Our Heavenly Father.

If you would like more information on the COBC Prayer Chain Ministry, would like to become a part of this ministry or would like to send a prayer request by email, please contact Caroline Robison at prayerchain@countryoaks.org
